Home Hospice

The aspiration of the Homecoming hospice is that a terminally ill person could live a dignified life even at the end without unnecessary pain and deprivation and could stay among his/her relatives in his/her home environment if possible. This quite simple idea has been made possible by the multidisciplinary team of the hospice for several years. The Homecoming home hospice offers services to terminally ill patients of all age categories who live Prague.

The home hospice provides intensive palliative care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for over 100 patients/year and it provides its expert consultancy home service to other patients. Patients with relatively complicated diagnosis and difficult symptoms can also be taken into home palliative specialized care thanks to further improvement of the quality of services and the enhanced offer of aids. The number of those, who stay home until the very end increases. Thanks to the specialized consultation visits the accepting of indicated patients for the specialized care improves.

Medical Equipment Rental

The renting of specialized medical equipment forms an integral part of the home hospice and thanks to the wide offer it enables the providing of high quality care in the home environment, which makes the work easier for the family. We rent equipment such as electric positionable beds, various types of wheelchairs, active and passive anti-decubital mattresses, oxygen concentrators, pulse oxymeters, linear medicine dozers, suction bottles, inflatable bath tubes, electric bath tube hoists, toilet chairs, diverse anti-decubite aids and other small aids. Also a mobile EKG and infusion pumps are available.

We have over 300 pieces of aids to rent.

Expert Consultation Service

The Homecoming consultation service provides complex personal, phone and Internet consultation to the dying, to those, who look after the terminally ill, bereaved relatives and other interested persons. Employees of the consultation room help them to deal with the new situation, select appropriate service or equipment and deliver required contacts. They will also consult basic nursery procedures in the care for seriously ill patients. They explain principles of the home hospice services and mediate the first contact for initiating the care of the hospice. They also perform a one-time consultation visit in cases when such a visit may help the family in a given situation.

Personal and phone consultation room offers immediate support and assistance when looking after a seriously ill family member. In the consultation room 6 consultants work, who make nearly 2000 contacts/year in over 1,300 hours.

We believe that through our consultation services we have contributed to greater awareness of the citizens of the Czech Republic about possibilities of taking care for the dying and bereaved relatives and for their better ability to manage the care. For in many cases a consulting employee may improve the quality of care significantly by listening to a family in crisis, calming them down, supporting them in what they are good at as well as delivering required information and contacts. The increasing visit rate of the consultation room, web site and the client feedback indicate that the use of consultation services is growing each month. The website is also used by people in small towns and villages, where the distance to a hospice is too long and neither a field hospice nor good information is easily available. In this way a family can also be able to manage a very difficult situation in the natural environment of a client.

Respite Services

Respite services of the Homecoming are closely related both to the services of the expert social consulting and to health care services.

The hospice services are specific, that is why we have been looking for optimum ways not only regarding particular means of providing services but we have also been trying to work on conceptual things and we have added constructive comments to the law where necessary. Depending on the necessity and wishes of clients and their families we have been providing relieving services both to patients and family members.

In all families relieving services met their basic objective: they relieved families with respect to the care and helped a dying person live in a dignified way and in the home environment with his/her relatives untill the end his or her life.
